Transitional Housing Programs provide safe, temporary homes for individuals (18Y+) who need a place to stabilize and thrive.
Our Transitional Housing Programs provide a stable foundation to people in our community who are at risk of homelessness or living in unstable/unsafe housing. Located in the Taggart Family YMCA, the Shenkman Residence is centrally located in downtown Ottawa, along major bus routes and a walking distance from a grocery store, food bank, and a community health centre.
- A shared room furnished with beds, lockers, and a large fridge
- A telephone line with voicemail and free Wi-Fi
- Shared full kitchen and shared bathrooms
- 24 hour/7 days a week support
- Access to Y health and fitness programs and services including:
- Group fitness classes, weights, and cardio equipment
- Indoor swimming pool and sauna
- Gymnasium
- Assistance connecting to appropriate community resources
- Job search assistance and access to computers
- Access to information and services for immigrants
- Support in many languages through staff and cultural interpreters
- Assistance in connecting with healthcare services
- Referrals to community resources
- Access to 24 hour/7 days a week crisis counselling
Those requiring emergency housing must first be assessed by the City of Ottawa to determine eligibility and authorize placement at the Y.
