YMCA Embassy Chef Showcase competition raises $55,000 for the YMCA National Capital Region


March 26, 2025 (Ottawa) — Tonight, 200 guests dined and raised funds for the YMCA at a culinary competition that celebrates global flavours and diversity in Canada's Capital. This much-anticipated culinary offered guests an immersive evening of international flavours and friendly competition. 

Two hundred attendees, including many local VIPs, voted for awards such as People’s Choice, Best Beverage, and Best-Dressed Booth. The nine chefs were from international embassies: Bangladesh, China, Germany, Ghana, Jamaica, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, and special participation by the United Nations Association in Canada.

  • Margaret Dickenson, Honourary Chair and Head Judge, Renowned cookbook author and TV host
  • Joe Thottungal, Chef-Owner of Coconut Lagoon
  • Justin Champagne-Lagarde, Chef-Owner of Perch

It’s an opportunity to unite as a community supporting the YMCA’s essential programs that empower individuals and strengthen our region. Since 1867, the YMCA of the National Capital Region has been at the centre of the community, helping people of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities live engaging, more rewarding lives. 100% of the proceeds raised by the Y Embassy Chef Showcase will be put to work helping those who need it most within the National Capital Region. Your support helps our Y continue to provide vital programs and services to the families and children in our community who rely on them.
